Role Summary

The Quality Laboratory Manager is responsible for leading the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS) and overseeing analytical and microbiological testing operations. This role ensures all laboratory activities, documentation, training, and reporting meet regulatory and internal quality standards. The Quality Laboratory Manager will manage a team of five and is expected to communicate effectively with cross-functional leaders, presenting laboratory data, driving accountability, and promoting a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Laboratory & Quality Management:
    Maintain and continuously improve the laboratory Quality Management System in compliance with ISO 9000 and ISO 17025 standards.
  • Oversee analytical and microbiological testing activities, including calibration, standardization, and method verification/validation.
  • Lead root cause investigations, deviations, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Track, analyze, and report laboratory KPIs such as turnaround time, accuracy, and compliance metrics.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for internal and external audits and inspections.
  • Oversee sample intake processes and manage retention sample programs.
  • Ensure batch records, downtime documentation, and quality events are properly recorded and reviewed.
  • Partner with leadership on safety initiatives, continuous improvement efforts, and procurement of quality-critical lab supplies.
Training, Production & Cross-Functional Support
  • Train and develop laboratory staff, quality inspectors, and production personnel on procedures, inspection methods, and quality expectations.
  • Ensure appropriate quality coverage across all production shifts.
  • Maintain accurate training records in accordance with SOPs.
  • Support and conduct SOP, GMP, and GDP training initiatives across departments.
  • Assist in investigations related to customer complaints and quality events.
  • Oversee batch record review and product disposition activities (hold/release).
  • Communicate quality issues, risks, and trends to senior leadership.
  • Actively coach, support, and hold the team accountable to performance and quality standards.
General Responsibilities
  • Maintain consistent, on-site attendance and active floor/lab presence.
  • Complete required training and compliance activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support quality and operational excellence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in a quality laboratory or regulated production environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with analytical testing, microbiological testing, and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9000 and ISO 17025 standards.
  • Proven people leadership experience, including training, performance management, and cross-department collaboration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused leadership style.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs and work in laboratory and manufacturing environments.
