Compensation Range: $40.64 - $51.46 per hour.
Job OverviewPatrol deputies (must be P.O.S.T. certified) detect and investigate criminal activity, enforce local, state, and federal laws, prepare accurate reports for investigations and court procedures, serve civil papers, guard prisoners, and assist other agencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (80%)- Remain calm and respond appropriately to emergency and threatening situations; protect self and others.
- Physically subdue and control unruly or resisting individuals.
- Maintain Office proficiency standards in use of firearms and other equipment.
- Safely operate a county vehicle in normal and emergency conditions.
- Perform law enforcement duties requiring adequate psychological and physical condition.
- Successfully complete mandatory training.
- Participate in community service activities such as public service talks, PAL program, crime prevention activities, etc.

Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Skills and Abilities:
- At least 21 years of age.
- Communicate effectively in written and verbal English.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Speak effectively before groups.
- Perform basic math calculations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, compute rate, ratio, percent, draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Operate telephones, computers, photocopiers, scanners, gas mask, two‑way radios, restraints, and handcuffs.
- Pass a criminal background check.
Licenses and
Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license (out‑of‑state accepted if residing in that state).
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Colorado Police Officer Standard (P.O.S.T.) training certificate.
- Pass psychological, physical, and background examinations.
Appearance Requirements:
- Tattoos: modest hand tattoos or non‑disruptive neck tattoos allowed; no tattoo on face or front of neck. Modest neck tattoos up to the carotid artery allowed at discretion.
- Piercings: modest piercings allowed, no large or obtrusive piercings; maximum one piercing displayed; certain restrictions for female sworn personnel.
