Agriculture Irrigation Technician / Equipment Operator

Join a team that keeps Central South Dakota farming running. Put your electrical expertise to work where it matters most — keeping agriculture running. If you thrive tracing circuits, reading control panels, and solving electrical problems that stump others, this role was built for you. As our Agriculture Irrigation Technician / Equipment Operator, your electrical expertise is what keeps center pivot systems running and farmers' growing seasons on track.

From VFD drives and control systems to transformers and three-phase motors, you'll work on the kind of challenges that actually demand your skills. This is a hands-on, field-first position where your electrical knowledge is front and center — backed by a team that invests in your certifications and trusts you to get the job done right.

What You'll Earn

  • Journeyman: $31.00 – $36.00 per hour | Depending on experience
  • Without Journeyman: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour | Depending on experience

What You'll Do

  • Install, maintain, diagnose, and repair center pivot irrigation systems in the field
  • Troubleshoot and resolve pivot functionality issues — mechanical, structural, and electrical
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical control panels, wiring, and lighting systems
  • Perform general electrical maintenance on facility and field equipment
  • Inspect transformers, circuit breakers, electric motors, and other electrical components
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing devices and diagnostic equipment
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of VFD and control systems and testing equipment
  • Follow the National Electrical Code and applicable state and local building regulations

Stay Organized, Stay Efficient

  • Track time and materials on each project and complete accurate, timely repair reports
  • Maintain vehicles, tools, inventory, and rolling stock in clean, operational condition
  • Perform daily equipment maintenance — grease, fuel, and fluid level checks
  • Inspect equipment for wear or irregularities and report findings to supervisor promptly

Support the Team in the Field

  • Operate forklifts, telehandlers, skid steers, and other small equipment as needed
  • Handle, fit, and install pipe and associated appurtenances as directed
  • Load, unload, and backfill materials; support pipe crew operations
  • Prepare work areas ahead of crew operations
  • Deliver or retrieve equipment from active job sites as needed

Serve Customers and Work Safely

  • Provide professional, excellent customer service during all field interactions
  • Support and conduct customer clinics and training sessions
  • Follow all company safety rules, regulations, and state/federal standards at all times
  • Participate in continuing education and training to develop skills and knowledge
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What You'll Need

  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
    Associate's degree in electrical preferred
  • Valid South Dakota driver's license (CDL preferred, or willingness to obtain)
  • SD Electrical License — apprentice level minimum, or willingness to obtain
  • Reinke Plus certification preferred, or willingness to obtain
  • Forklift and small equipment operation experience
  • Knowledge of VFD and control systems a plus
  • Strong self-motivation, time management, and communication skills
  • Ability to lift at least 75 lbs. repeatedly and perform sustained physical, outdoor work

Where You'll Work

  • You'll be based out of our shop location in South Dakota, with regular trips into the field to service customer equipment at farm sites across the region.
