This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for certain competitive positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position:
This position is located at Big Bend Project Office, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and situated in Fort Thompson, South Dakota.

Major Duties
  • Install and/or make plumbing maintenance to toilets, sinks, drinking fountains, hydrants, valves, faucets, waterlines, water heaters, irrigation controllers, sprinkler heads, sewer lines, fixtures, pumps, etc.
  • Operate mobile cranes and boom trucks up to 50 ton capacity.
  • Constructs wooden forms of concrete.
  • Utilizes electric and gas welding equipment to fabricate and/or repair equipment for the section.
  • Performs a variety of landscaping and grounds maintenance work.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of heavy engineering and construction equipment,
  • Operate and maintain a variety of gasoline and diesel powered motor vehicles,
  • Operate motorboats up to 26 feet in length.
Conditions of Employment
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's license (CDL) within six (6) months of employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Power Industrial Truck (PIT) license within twenty-four (24) months of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a state issued driver’s license.
  • Must obtain a US Army Corps of Engineers Motorboat Operator’s License (26 feet and under) within twelve (12) months of employment.
  • This is a mandatory drug Testing Designated Position (TDP), in accordance with ER 690-1-1218, USACE Civilian Drug Free Workplace Program, dated 30 June 2021. Participation in the Mandatory Drug Testing Program is required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element):
Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE MECHANIC ~ without more than normal supervision.

- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

WG-10: Without more than normal supervision, I have performed the duties of a Maintenance Worker such as carpentry, repairing irrigation systems, and plumbing repairs. I have full level skills in operating all associated tools and equipment related to the sub journeyman level skills. I have experience operating and maintaining forklifts, backhoes, and tractor-trailers. I have performed daily operation checks of this equipment.

Failure to meet these Screen out Elements will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms. Works in hard to reach places. Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts up to 40 pounds. Heavy physical effort is used when operating equipment in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments.
