The Carpenter Supervisor is responsible for supervising all carpenters and carpenter-related projects. This includes the planning, construction, installation and/or repair of existing and new structures and fixtures. The position is further responsible for determining requirements and priorities of projects and work orders. This is a non-exempt position.

Reports to the Facilities Manager

• Determine priorities of projects and work orders. Regularly communicates with the Facilities Manager on the status of projects and work orders.
• Examines blueprints, sketches, and/or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required. Keeps record of changes on blueprints for future reference.
• Lays out floor plans and carpentry work, using standard carpentry instruments.
• Selects and purchases materials and structural units as needed, i.e. lumber, doors, cabinets, and paneling. Inspects them for quality assurance.
• Ensures conformance with local, state and federal codes, guidelines, and ordinances.
• Determine sequence of activities concerned with fabrication, assembly, and erection of structure.
• Gives progress reports regarding projects to the Facilities Manager. Submits budget preparation and requests for the purchase of carpentry tools and related equipment.
• Determines power and carpentry tools needed for projects, inspecting them for damage and safe operation.
• Inspects work completed to insure conformance with specification.
• Oversees, manages, and trains carpenters the daily routines and work assigned to them.
• Complies with all safety and health requirements whether established by management or by federal, state, or local law.
• Performs other responsibilities as required by the Facilities Manager.

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Carpentry and supervisory experience required
• Valid SD Driver’s License

• Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
• Occasionally exerts up to 50 lbs. of force.
• Regularly bends, stoops, crouches, and climbs stairs.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
• Must have the capability to apply oneself physically over long periods of time.
• Uses the abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly over time without becoming fatigued.

• Position requires working outdoors in summer and winter.

• 40 hours/week and on-call as required
