Function / Position Summary
To provide secondary work training experience, independent life skills and individualized instruction as mandated by individual student IEPs.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Provide direct services and instructions as mandated by the IEP.
- Administration of classroom, district and state assessment.
- Modification of classroom assignments and tests for caseload students.
- Ongoing collaboration and communication with parents and staff.
- Attend School Service Team and IEP meetings.
- Complete data based screens for annual reviews/re-evaluations for case load students.
- Update progress reports quarterly.
- Develop transition plans and Summary of Performance for students 14 years or older.
- Create data driven goals and objectives based on student needs, grade level, and state standards for case load students.
- Work with DORS, AID, JVS and other community and state agencies to serve special education student's individual needs and provide information to parents.
- Monitor case load for annual review and re-evaluation dates.
- Implement researched-based teaching strategies that engage all students; acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
- Create an environment conducive to learning and motivates students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
- Display a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
- Plan for and guides the learning process toward the mastery of curriculum goals, and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects that are clearly communicated to students.
- As appropriate, implements assessments of student progress and communicates progress to students and parents.
- Work cooperatively with building principal and/or director in assessing his/her teaching strengths and weaknesses, and planning and implementing a program to improve his/her teaching competencies.
- Attend school professional development.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
- Assist administration in implementing student discipline policies and maintains order in area(s) assigned and/or supervised in a fair and just manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal, or other administrative staff.
- Bachelor's degree in related subject from accredited university.
- Illinois teaching certificate with LBS1 endorsement.
- Special education teaching experience is preferred but not necessary for hiring.
- Knowledge of various disabilities and how it effects employment.
- Ability to supervise support staff
- Ability to coordinate work experiences both in the community and in school for students identified with special education needs.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Indoor/outdoor in a busy environment and out in the community.
- Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
- Can require prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
