Power Systems Field Technician – South Elgin, IL

We are looking for a Power Systems Field Technician to report out of our South Elgin, IL branch. This is a union position with Local 150.

Pay range: $41.57–63.95 per hour based on experience.

• Apply technical experience to inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair Power Systems equipment.
• Complete service reports, PM checklists, and timecards in alignment with departmental standards.
• Leverage previous experience to perform service tasks efficiently and accurately.
• Communicate job updates to clients and internal team members to maintain customer satisfaction.
• Maintain inventory of onboard parts.
• Perform comprehensive visual inspections and testing on engine and generator sets, documenting deficiencies during preventive maintenance.
• Keep the service truck in good condition.
• Incorporate Alta’s Guiding Principles into daily activities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Ensure consistent, reliable attendance and readiness for work at designated start time.
• Be available for after‑hours calls and overnight work.

• Previous experience with CAT, Cummins, and Volvo engines is required.
• Minimum of three years in electric power generator maintenance and repair.
• Excellent mechanical aptitude with strong understanding of engine, power train, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Own personal tools.
• Positive attitude and high energy.
• Basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Intermediate reading and writing abilities for safety rules, operating instructions, and reports.
• Basic mathematical skills for handling money and measurements.
• Intermediate reasoning ability for analytical tasks.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

• Regularly stand, walk, use hands and reach; frequently talk/hear, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• Lift up to 25 lb regularly; 26–50 lb frequently; occasionally 51–100 lb or more.
• Work near moving mechanical parts; exposed to fumes, particulate matter, outdoor weather, extreme heat or cold, wet or humid conditions, risk of electrical shock, vibration.
