The Adjunct Faculty – English Composition Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in ENG 163 – English Composition and related general education courses. The instructor facilitates the development of students' written communication, critical thinking, reading comprehension, research, and academic writing skills necessary for success in higher education and professional careers. Instruction may be delivered in online formats in accordance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and student learning outcomes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Teach ENG English Composition in accordance with approved course outlines, curriculum, and student learning outcomes.
Develop and deliver engaging lessons that promote effective written communication and critical thinking.
Instruct students in:
Academic writing and essay development
Grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure
Research methods and documentation styles
Reading comprehension and textual analysis
Critical thinking and argument development
Professional and academic communication
Develop and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and assessments.
Evaluate student performance through essays, writing assignments, presentations, projects, quizzes, and examinations.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student learning and writing proficiency.
Maintain accurate attendance, grade records, and student progress reports in accordance with institutional policies.
Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) for course delivery, communication, and grading.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
Encourage student engagement, participation, and academic success.
Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, curriculum review, and professional development activities as required.
Uphold academic integrity and institutional policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Strong knowledge of English composition, rhetoric, grammar, and academic writing.
Ability to teach writing skills to diverse student populations.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong organizational and classroom management abilities.
Ability to incorporate technology into instruction.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.).Ability to work effectively with students from diverse educational, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Commitment to student success and academic excellence.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in English, Composition, Rhetoric, Literature, Communications, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution; OR Bachelor’s degree in another discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credit hours in English or a closely related field.
Prior teaching experience at the postsecondary level preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication.
