Position Summary

4 to 16 hours a week as needed on Mon, Tues, Wed or Thur any given day 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The Adjunct Faculty Communications Instructor teaches COM
160 – Communication in support of general education requirements for students enrolled in postsecondary programs. The instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality, student-centered instruction that promotes effective oral, interpersonal, and professional communication skills while ensuring course content aligns with institutional and accreditation standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned Communication (COM
    160) courses in accordance with approved course outlines, objectives, and learning outcomes.
  • Deliver engaging instruction using lectures, discussions, presentations, group activities, and assessments.
  • Employ varied instructional strategies to support diverse learning styles, including technology-enhanced and online teaching methods.
  • Develop, update, and maintain course syllabi, assignments, and instructional materials in compliance with institutional guidelines.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently; provide timely, constructive feedback to support learning outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grade records and submit required reports by established deadlines.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages participation, confidence, and effective communication skills.
  • Hold office hours or provide academic support to students as required.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities as assigned.
  • Uphold academic integrity and enforce all institutional policies and procedures.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Experience teaching Communication or related subjects in an educational setting.
  • Experience teaching online or hybrid courses preferred.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle).
  • Strong knowledge of oral, interpersonal, group, and professional communication principles.
  • Ability to design and deliver engaging, rigorous instruction.
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Commitment to student success, equity, and academic excellence.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty and academic leadership.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Speech, or a closely related field, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in another discipline with 18 graduate credit hours in Communication or a related field.
  • Prior postsecondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including adult learners and first-generation college students, preferred.
