Position Summary
Senior R&D Systems Engineer – Remote (100% remote possible based on location)
Silvus Technologies, a leading provider of advanced MANET and MIMO communications systems and a wholly owned subsidiary of Motorola Solutions, Inc., seeks a senior R&D Systems Engineer to lead the definition and development of next‑generation Networked Electronic Warfare (EW) systems. The role reports to the Senior Director of R&D Electronic Warfare and bridges complex RF hardware, advanced signal processing software, and distributed networking architectures.
Responsibilities- Lead the architectural definition of networked EW systems, translating high‑level mission requirements into detailed hardware, software, and firmware specifications.
- Utilize modern requirements management tools to capture, trace, and maintain system requirements throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring full coverage from customer needs to validation testing.
- Author and maintain critical engineering artifacts, including System Design Descriptions (SDD), Interface Control Documents (ICD), CONOPS, and Test Plans.
- Define and oversee system integration strategies; lead hands‑on integration events involving RF hardware, embedded software, and network emulators in laboratory and field environments.
- Act as the technical bridge between RF, FPGA, Software, and Mechanical engineering teams, facilitating trade studies to balance performance, SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power), and cost.
- Develop simulation models (MATLAB/Python) to predict system performance under realistic conditions and validate these models against field test data.
- Travel occasionally for team meetings, test events, and client demonstrations at Los Angeles, CA headquarters or other locations.
- BS degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in systems engineering for complex hardware/software systems, with a strong understanding of the V‑model, requirements decomposition, and lifecycle management.
- Proven experience in one or more of the following domains:
Electronic Warfare, Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Tactical Radios / Wireless Communications (MANET, MIMO, Mesh), or Radar Systems. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical data to non‑technical stakeholders and government customers.

Skills and Abilities
- MS degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related technical field.
- Hands‑on experience with modern systems engineering and requirements tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler (Magic Draw), IBM DOORS / DOORS Next Gen, Jama Connect, or Sparx Enterprise Architect.
- Experience applying Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies to model system behaviors, states, and data flows using SysML.
- Understanding of distributed EW concepts, such as TDOA/FDOA geolocation, coherent distributed jamming, or collaborative sensing across a MANET.
- RF & networking fluency; knowledge of RF propagation, link budgets, and modulation techniques.
- Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, multicast) and tactical data links (e.g., Link 16, ATAK integrations).
- Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or Simulink for data analysis and algorithm modeling.
Physical Requirements
Office environment with occasional travel. Employees may need to lift equipment up to 20 lbs for demonstration and testing setup. Walking and moving in laboratory spaces is required.
Compensation$140,000 – $200,000 per year, USD. The pay range is not guaranteed and will vary depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
