Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Summary
Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment as well as production machines and equipment under constant supervision.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
- Disassembles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
- Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
- Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Repairs or replaces defective parts in hydraulic equipment such as valves, motors, cylinders and pumps; conditioning equipment such as grinding and abrasive blast machines; mobile hydraulic equipment; and other plant equipment as designated by supervisor.
- Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
- Lubricates and cleans parts.
- Starts devices to test their performance.
- Daily inspection and record keeping of various pieces of plant equipment.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, mechanical drawings, manufacturer's literature, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of supervisors or managers.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Monitor equipment operating conditions and keep records of those conditions.
- Use of hand tools.
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; lift and/or move up to 35 pounds; exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, extreme heat and vibration where LOTO and PPE must be used.
- Occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Manufacturing and laboratory environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
