Refrigeration Technician
Under routine supervision, this position is responsible for performing standard level maintenance, service, and repair of J.B. Hunt specialized trailers/containers (dry van, refrigerated, and temperature controlled), chassis, and other equipment. Technicians must troubleshoot issues, complete all fleet maintenance processes, and ensure units meet J.B. Hunt specifications at all times. The role may involve outdoor work, multiple shifts including nights and weekends, and overtime;
the position requires full‑time attendance.
Shifts may vary based upon location and business needs.
Key Responsibilities- Demonstrate standard knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and more difficult repairs as they pertain to specialized trailer maintenance, air brake systems, and FHWA inspections.
- Diagnose and repair specialized trailer equipment; work independently and seek assistance as needed.
- Participate in Original Equipment Manufacturer training for OEM repairs.
- Follow all shop safety procedures.
- Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers at all times.
- Accurately perform standard level repairs to company and manufacturer’s specifications, complete work orders, and demonstrate understanding of company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as tire replacements/flat repairs, brake adjustments/services/replacements, electrical diagnostics, and basic structural repairs on trailer chassis and sub‑frames.
- Use cutting torch and welding equipment; perform minor repairs on chassis, frames, brackets, etc.
- 18 years of age with 1–2 years of experience in semi‑trailer maintenance and repair and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or military equivalent.
- Willingness to work outdoors and across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends.
- E.P.A. section 608 certification.
- Tech 2 certification.
- At least one year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums.
- Physical ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledge of ABS systems.
- Standard welding, cutting, and brazing skills.
Starting pay range: $28.92 – $38.52 per hour. Pay may vary based on skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications. The position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on company profitability or volume, in accordance with applicable bonus and incentive plans.
Full‑time benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability coverage, paid time off (vacation and sick), six weeks of paid maternity leave, two weeks of paid parental leave, and six paid holidays annually.
Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates located outside a 50‑mile radius of the job.
