Job Description

PVPA has an opportunity for a full time Grade 7 Social Studies Teacher for the 2026‑2027 school year. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who collaborates effectively with colleagues and understands the varied needs of seventh grade students. In this course, students will explore the roots and philosophical foundations of U.S. democracy. They will be tasked with exploring the governments of ancient Greece and the Roman Republic, and will progress through an examination of enlightenment thinkers and their impact upon the American Revolution and the creation of the United States Constitution.

Students are assessed through a variety of methods using a standards‑based grading system with the goal of supporting and challenging each student. The ideal candidate is interested in integrating the arts into the curriculum, teaching with a social justice lens, collaborating with students and colleagues, and has experience in implementing restorative practices in the classroom. Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, you will be responsible for the following.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching five sections of 7th grade social studies
  • Use an anti‑racist, anti‑oppression framework to prepare curricula and instructional materials based on learning objectives
  • Plan curricula and prepare course expectations and materials based on set departmental learning objectives
  • Supervise students during non‑class time (e.g., lunch) as required
  • Assess student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via the Power School online grading system
  • Apply PVPA standards‑based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement
  • Attend and participate in regular collaborative team meetings with faculty, department and grade level team meetings and school‑wide professional development activities
  • Attend and participate in meetings with students and/or parents as scheduled, including open house and parent‑teacher conferences
  • Coordinate with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners
  • Assist with other faculty administrative duties as required
  • Participate in school‑wide events that occur during the school day

    Located in South Hadley, Massachusetts, Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School serves 400 students in grades 7‑12 who come from over 60 cities and towns. Our mission is to offer students intensive exposure to the performing arts within the context of an excellent college preparatory curriculum.     Job Requirements
  • The candidate must minimally hold a BA degree, be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting), and be computer literate
  • Two or more years of experience teaching middle school social studies in a public or private school
  • Eligible for "Highly Qualified" teacher status (MA Certified or able to pass Communication & Literacy and Subject Matter MTEL exam within 1 year)
  • Fields of relevant endorsement, such as Sheltered English Immersion (SEI)
  • Experience with middle school students
  • Knowledge of discipline curriculum standards
  • Interest or experience in the arts
  • Salary and Work Details

    Salary Range: $43,268 to $68,719 annually. Additional $1,000 stipend for individuals who hold a DESE license in subject area and potential for bonus at the end of the fiscal year. The 2026‑2027 school year consists of 180 school days plus 5 professional development/curriculum work days and a thirty‑five hour work week that includes, on average, three class blocks per day of collaborative/independent work time.
