Job Description

PVPA is looking for a full‑time Biology Teacher for the 2026‑2027 school year in grades 9‑12. The ideal candidate is a reflective practitioner who collaborates effectively with colleagues and addresses the varied needs of students. The curriculum includes laboratory skills, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, anatomy, physiology, biodiversity, ecology, and evolution. Students will demonstrate knowledge through written work, class activities, homework, assessments, quizzes, tests, and laboratory work, and will be prepared for the Biology MCAS test.

  • Teach five classes per semester
  • Use an anti‑racist, anti‑oppression framework to prepare curricula and instructional materials based on learning objectives
  • Plan curricula and prepare course expectations and materials
  • Supervise students during non‑class time (e.g., lunch) as required
  • Assess student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via the Power School online grading system
  • Apply PVPA standards‑based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement
  • Attend and participate in regular collaborative team meetings with faculty and school‑wide professional development activities
  • Attend and participate in meetings with students and/or parents as scheduled, including open house and parent‑teacher conferences
  • Coordinate with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners
  • Perform other duties as required
Job Requirements
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree
  • Successful completion of a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting)
  • Computer literacy
  • Two or more years of experience teaching biology at the secondary level (preferred)
  • Eligibility for “Highly Qualified” teacher status (MA Certified or able to pass Communication & Literacy and Biology MTEL exam within one year)
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement (preferred)
  • Experience with high school students (preferred)
  • Knowledge of discipline curriculum standards (preferred)
  • Interest or experience in the arts (preferred)
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
Salary and Benefits

Salary range: $43,268 to $68,719 annually. An additional $1,000 stipend is provided for individuals holding a DESE license in the subject area, and a $1,000 sign‑on bonus is offered for hard‑to‑fill positions. Potential end‑of‑year bonus may be available. The 2026‑2027 school year comprises 180 school days plus five professional development/curriculum work days, and a thirty‑five hour work week with an average of three class blocks per day of collaborative/independent work time.
