Job Description

PVPA has an opportunity for a full time Grade 7 Social Studies Teacher for the  school year. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who collaborates effectively with colleagues and understands the varied needs of seventh grade students. In this course, students will explore the roots and philosophical foundations of U.S. democracy, the governments of ancient Greece and the Roman Republic, and the Enlightenment thinkers and their impact upon the American Revolution and the creation of the United States Constitution.

Students are assessed through a variety of methods using a standards‑based grading system with the goal of supporting and challenging each student. The ideal candidate is interested in integrating the arts into the curriculum, teaching with a social‑justice lens, collaborating with students and colleagues, and has experience implementing restorative practices in the classroom.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching five sections of 7th grade social studies.
  • Using an anti‑racist, anti‑oppression framework to prepare curricula and instructional materials based on learning objectives.
  • Planning curricula and preparing course expectations and materials based on set departmental learning objectives.
  • Supervising students during non‑class time (e.g., lunch) as required.
  • Assessing student work and providing timely feedback to students and parents via the Power School online grading system.
  • Applying PVPA standards‑based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement.
  • Attending and participating in regular collaborative team meetings with faculty, department, grade‑level team meetings, and school‑wide professional development activities.
  • Attending and participating in meetings with students and/or parents as scheduled, including open house and parent‑teacher conferences.
  • Coordinating with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners.
  • Assisting with other faculty administrative duties as required.
  • Participating in school‑wide events that occur during the school day.
  • Qualifications
    • Minimum qualification:

      BA degree, computer literate, ability to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting).
    • Minimum experience:

      Two or more years of teaching middle school social studies in a public or private school.
    • Eligibility for “Highly Qualified” teacher status (MA Certified or ability to pass Communication & Literacy and Subject Matter MTEL exam within one year).
    • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement.
    • Experience with middle school students.
    • Knowledge of discipline curriculum standards.
    • Interest or experience in the arts.
    Benefits & Compensation

    Salary Range: $43,268 to $68,719 annually. Additional $1,000 stipend for individuals who hold a DESE license in subject area and potential for bonus at the end of the fiscal year. The 2026‑2027 school year consists of 180 school days plus five professional‑development/curriculum‑work days and a thirty‑five hour work week that includes, on average, three class blocks per day of collaborative/independent work time.
