Position: DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES
Director Of Student Services (Special Ed)
Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School, 7-12, Public Charter School located in South Hadley, MA
Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School (PVPA) provides students with a supportive and challenging environment that is responsive to multiple learning styles, emphasizes learning through the arts, and integrates critical and creative thinking throughout the curriculum. PVPA prepares all our students for higher education through rigorous, standards-based curriculum in a nurturing, collaborative environment.
We are looking for a collaborative administrator who enjoys working with colleagues and loves working with middle and high school students. The Director of Student Services serves as PVPA's Administrator of Special Education and 504 Coordinator, and supervises School Counseling and Health Services, providing oversight and staff supervision. Under the supervision of the Head of School, the Director of Student Services is responsible for:
Global Responsibilities
Promoting the PVPA vision and mission within the school community and the broader community throughout the regionCommunicating clearly and respectfully with caregivers, staff, students, and community membersPreserves, articulates, and represents the mission and values of PVPAFostering capacity building and collaborative decision making with inclusivity and transparencyLeadership
Provides direct supervision and evaluation for Academic Support Teachers, Paraprofessionals, School Counselors, School Psychologist, and School Nurse.Assures compliance with all state and federal laws pertaining to students with disabilitiesAssures that PVPA is informed and in compliance with all DESE regulations and reportingServes as District Homeless Education Liaison and District Foster Care CoordinatorEstablishes and maintains Special Education Parent Advisory CouncilProvides special education training for all PVPA staffMaintains departmental budget, including writing and administering grants to support the Academic Support DepartmentParticipates in school wide, administrator, and departmental meetingsOversees hiring within Student Services Departments in accordance with school procedures and policiesContracts with independent service providers as necessary for the provision of specially designed instruction, related services, and consultationAcquires and maintains the tools, materials, and technology necessary to run effective special education programsOther duties as assignedQualifications
The successful candidate will minimally hold an advanced degree in education or specialty field, be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting) and be computer literate. Preferred qualification include:
Five years of experience in a public education leadership roleCommitment to the belief that all students can succeedClearly demonstrated knowledge of special education law and DESE regulations as they pertain to special education and supervision and evaluation of staffCertification in the Commonwealth of Mass as a Special Education Administrator, or ability to obtain within two years.Other Information/Instructions:
Salary individually negotiated based on experience and a base of $85,000. This is a Twelve-month 260-day position that includes vacation time.
