Job Description:

The Department of Philosophy at Mount Holyoke College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position to begin July 1, 2027. The teaching load is four courses per year. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of strong teaching at the undergraduate level and experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, and religion.

A Ph.D. or ABD is required.

The area of specialization is open. The candidate must be able to teach symbolic logic. We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach advanced undergraduate courses in logic and/or other formal methods in philosophy. The ability to teach courses in the history of philosophy is also an asset.

Applicants are required to submit a cover letter, CV, writing sample, evidence of teaching effectiveness (including syllabi and complete teaching evaluations from recent courses), a statement about teaching philosophy, a statement of research interests, and a statement about mentoring a diverse student body. Reference letters will be requested at a later date in the process. We recommend early submission. Applications should be received by November 1 to ensure full consideration.

Minimum starting rate of pay: $90,000.Mount Holyoke is an undergraduate liberal arts college with 2,200 students and 220 faculty. Mount Holyoke College is located about 90 miles west of Boston in the Connecticut River valley, and is a member of the Five College Consortium consisting of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts.
