Job Summary
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and truck type. Drivers transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers provide pick‑up services of containers filled with waste or recyclable material, often weighing over 1,000 pounds and sometimes requiring maneuvering to a pick‑up stage.
Drivers navigate high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, and must perform highly skilled backing maneuvers. Residential Drivers collect household waste or recyclable material and must safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments. Roll‑off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, navigating driveways, alleyways, lots, high‑traffic roadways, and tight overhead environments.
- Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements, plus all local, state, and federal laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks using the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report).
- Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
- Work closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notify Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service, or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
Required Qualifications
- At least 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL or 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
- Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- (CDL) Class A Commercial Driver License with an air‑brake endorsement upon hire.
- (CDL) Class B Commercial Driver License with an air‑brake endorsement upon hire.
- High School Diploma or GED (accredited).
- Standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, handling, sitting, talking, hearing.
The expected base pay range for this office/on‑site position is $26.50 – $30.00. This range is a good faith estimate; the specific salary offered may be influenced by factors such as relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
