Job Overview
Perioperative Services is composed of Pre-Admission Testing, Preop (16 bays), Operating Room (3 OR Rooms and a C‑Section Room), Special Procedures (3 procedure rooms), PACU/Recovery area (9 bays), and Central Sterile. We provide Surgical Procedures for Cardiovascular, ENT, General, GI, Ophthalmology, Ortho, Pain Management, Pulmonology, Urology and see about 350 patients a month. ClinicalNurse I – Responsibilities & Scope
Integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of the patient and family. Assists the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. Provides direction, education, and begins to acquire leadership skills at the unit level. Delivers and accurately documents direct, age‑specific care based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.
Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
Schedule:
Monday‑Friday, 4 ten‑hour shifts plus rotating call.
- Call requirements: 7 first calls, 7 backup calls in a 13‑week period, includes one weekend of first call and one weekend of backup call. Holidays include one first call and one backup call; some holidays may have no call.
Demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. Assists the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. Recognizes changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately. Mobilizes resources to meet individualized needs of patient/families. Provides direction, education, and assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level. Delivers and accurately documents direct, age‑specific care based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.

Delivers and accurately documents direct, age‑specific care based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.

- Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state.
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
- Clinical Nurse I: N/A
- Clinical Nurse II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
- Clinical Nurse III: 3 years of clinical experience
- Clinical Nurse I:
Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in an acute‑care setting or applicable area of practice. - Clinical Nurse II, III:
Academic Health Care Experience;
Experience with similar patient population in an acute‑care setting or applicable area of practice.
- Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing.
- All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date unless grandfathered under previous requirements.
- Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program.
- Clinical Nurse III:
Certification in specialty area.
