Public Works – Crew Leader

The Village of South Holland, Illinois, a leading suburb located 25 miles south of downtown Chicago with a population of approximately 22,000, is actively seeking candidates to fill the Crew Leader position with the Public Works department.

Under the general direction of the Director of Public Works or Public Works Superintendent, an employee in this class performs a variety of skilled work as a member of a crew or an individual engaged in the construction, demolition, installation, and repair of Village Assets. An employee in this class plans, organizes, assigns, and supervises the on-site work of crew members assigned to the construction, demolition, installation, and repair of streets, as well as to public right-of-way maintenance.

Work includes planning on-site work, maintenance, and emergency needs; ensuring the crew has proper tools and equipment; and ensuring the crew follows safety procedures. Employee coordinates work with property owners, answers and resolves public complaints, and serves as crew leader on assigned projects and events.

• High school diploma/GED equivalent is required (Two-year Associate’s degree in relevant field, preferred).
• Five (5) years’ experience in municipal water, sewer, stormwater, street, or park construction and maintenance, or other similar construction experience.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
• Maintain that License and Endorsements without interruption throughout their employment with the Village.
