Senior System Safety Engineer

Are you ready to lead the safety efforts behind some of the world’s most advanced naval engineering projects? Our client, a renowned player in high-tech shipbuilding, is seeking a System Safety Engineer to take ownership of safety compliance and risk management across complex defence programs. Salary up to €85k a year.

As System Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for guiding and implementing system safety engineering practices, ensuring all systems meet international standards and internal policies. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, and stakeholders to promote a safety-first culture from concept to delivery.

• Conduct detailed hazard analyses (HAZOP, FTA, FMEA) to identify and mitigate risks in naval systems.
• Ensure compliance with standards such as IEC 61508 and MIL-Std-882E.
• Develop, document, and monitor robust risk mitigation strategies.
• Maintain structured hazard tracking using an established risk matrix.
• Define system safety requirements and integrate them into the design process.
• Act as the primary point of contact for all system safety-related matters.
• Lead and mentor a dedicated team of safety engineers.
• Support internal training and promote knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to ongoing improvements of safety processes and policies.
• Ensure full compliance with HSSEQ / IMED protocols.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• Proven experience in system safety engineering within shipbuilding, defence, or a related industry.
• In-depth knowledge of IEC 61508, MIL-Std-882E, and the Machine Directive.
• Strong leadership and people management capabilities.
• Broad technical understanding across mechanical, electrical, and automation domains.
• Skilled communicator with experience engaging diverse stakeholders

• Monthly salary up to €6,500 (depending on experience)
• 38 vacation days (including compensatory time off)
• Travel allowance (€0.23 per km)
• Hybrid working possible (up to 2 days per week from home)
