Painter Helper – Powder Coating Shop
This role supports the paint and powder coating operations for custom-engineered electrical equipment. You work in and around the paint booth, assisting with painting, powder coating, and spraying fabricated sheet metal used in electrical cabinets. You help mix paint according to specified ratios, prepare and move materials, perform general labor tasks, and test coatings for proper thickness and adhesion to meet quality standards in a fast-paced production environment.
Responsibilities- Assist with painting, powder coating, and spray application on fabricated sheet metal components for electrical cabinets.
- Work in the paint area adjacent to the machine shop, both inside and outside of the paint booth.
- Help mix and apply paint in correct ratios according to specifications and job requirements.
- Support blasting, sandblasting, and surface preparation of parts prior to painting and coating.
- Perform paint prep tasks such as sanding, masking, and cleaning parts to ensure proper adhesion.
- Move materials, parts, and finished components throughout the shop as needed.
- Carry out general labor duties to support production, including basic assembly and handling tasks.
- Test paint and powder coatings for appropriate thickness (mileage) and adherence to the product.
- Assist with the use of spray guns, paint sprayers, and other coating equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Follow established production schedules and contribute to maintaining a fast-paced workflow.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe handling of coatings and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area within the paint and powder coat shop.
- At least 1 year of industrial painting experience.
- Hands-on experience assisting with painting, blasting, and prepping parts in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in manufacturing or production settings (excluding refinery experience).
- Ability and willingness to perform general labor duties as needed.
- Experience with paint prep, including sanding and surface preparation.
- Proficiency using spray guns, paint sprayers, and working in a paint booth.
- Knowledge of industrial paint application and coating processes.
- Ability to work with powder coating and spray painting techniques.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced production shop and handling multiple tasks.
- Reliability in working extended hours, commonly 50–60 hours per week.

Work EnvironmentYou work in a medium-sized, very clean and organized shop that is one of several facilities. The environment is non-climate controlled with open bay doors and plenty of fans, creating a busy, fast-paced production setting. Each shift includes around 15 people, including machine operators, fabricators, quality control staff, material handlers, and managers, with plans to add more powder coaters. The typical schedule for night shift is Monday to Friday, 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. It is extremely common to work 50–60 hours per week, and it is rare to work only 40 hours.
Required attire includes steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Houston, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $15.00 - $16.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
