Vessel Fitter
We are seeking a skilled Vessel Fitter for our large steel fabrication facility specializing in vessels and heat exchangers. The role involves interpreting blueprints and drawings to layout and fit fabricated parts to vessel shells. Responsibilities include laying out vessels, taking off measurements, burning shells, and fitting nozzles and internals. You will work with carbon steel ranging from 1/4" to 2" thick, and must pass fit-up inspections with minimal oversight.
Responsibilities- Interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and P& for vessel construction.
- Layout and fit-up fabricated parts to vessel shells using industrial hand tools.
- Perform fitting on carbon steel with thicknesses from 1/4" to 2".
- Conduct layout vessels, layout shells, take offs, burn shells, fit nozzles, and internals.
- Ensure all fit-up inspections are passed with minimal oversight.
- Employ welding techniques such as tack welding, sub arc, and flux core.
- Utilize equipment like angle rollers and plate rollers.
- Minimum 5 years of fabrication experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in vessel fitting.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, ISOs, P&IDs, and schematics.
- Ability to use industrial hand tools for layout and fit-up.

Work EnvironmentWork in a medium-sized, open-air vessel shop without A/C, focusing on safety, honesty, and integrity. The team consists of around 20 employees on day shifts and 8 on night shifts, including welders, fitters, and helpers. Safety gear includes steel toes, jeans, a work shirt, safety glasses, and a hard hat. The day shift is Monday to Friday, from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, with potential Saturday shifts.
Expect 49-hour work weeks, increasing to 58 hours as work picks up.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Houston, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
