Job SummaryThe instructor will teach college students successfully obtaining the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in their careers in Automotive Systems Repair Technology. Courses include engines, electrical, hydraulics, chassis & transmissions. They will use classroom and laboratory instruction to impart technical information and fundamental skills required to maintain and repair passenger vehicles and trucks. The instructor will develop new curriculum and update existing curriculum as needed, create courses to support a competency‑based environment, attend required meetings, and fulfill department and school assignments.
They will also serve on school and college committees. This is a pooled position; the department reviews applications as positions become available. Please attach resume or curriculum vitae, copy of transcripts, or other documents for consideration.
- Maintain students’ records.
- Prepare course material and develop curriculum.
- Supervise automotive repairs made by students.
- Follow the course curriculum.
- Prepare and administer student evaluations.
- Keep accurate classroom records.
- Provide ADA accommodations as directed.
- Answer course‑related questions.
- Follow SLCC policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the Automotive ASE disciplines; skilled in steering/suspension and brakes.
- Effective communication with diverse students and staff.
- Maintain an on‑site campus presence to encourage in‑person relationships and meaningful learning experiences unless online‑only courses are approved.
- Maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum six years as an automotive technician, or
- AAS Degree in Automotive Technology + 4 years experience as an automotive technician, or
- Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology + two years experience as an automotive technician.
- High School or post‑secondary teaching experience may be substituted for industry experience.
- ASE Certified – G‑1.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology + two years experience as an automotive technician.
- ASE Master Certification with G‑1.
