English Tutor – Intermediate Adult Learner South Jordan

We are seeking an experienced English tutor to work with my wife on a part-time, ongoing basis. She is a native speaker of Kazakh and Russian, has lived in the United States for three years, and has solid conversational English. She can follow movies and read articles comfortably but needs focused development in grammar accuracy, natural phrasing, and verbal communication skills for professional settings.

Goals (Phase 1 – Verbal Communication Focus):

• Improve grammar and sentence structure in spoken English
• Expand vocabulary with emphasis on professional and business contexts
• Develop confidence in workplace conversations and client communication
• Build natural phrasing and idiomatic expression

Future phases may include written business communication and accent refinement.

• 3 to 4 hours per week
• Preferred times:
  Monday through Thursday, 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM (evenings after 6 PM possible but less preferred)
• In-person sessions in South Jordan (our home or tutor's location)
• Online sessions considered as a supplement but not primary format

What We're Looking For:

• Experience teaching ESL to adult learners at intermediate level
• Ability to assess current skills and create a structured development plan with clear milestones
• Patient, encouraging teaching style with emphasis on practical application
• Strong background in grammar instruction and conversational practice
• TESOL, TEFL certification, or teaching degree preferred

Compensation:

• $28 to $35 per hour depending on qualifications and experience
• Weekly or biweekly payment
• Budget of approximately $500 per month
• Initial paid trial session (1 hour) to assess fit before committing to ongoing lessons
