Electronics & Automation Faculty Member
Salt Lake Community College is seeking a dedicated Electronics & Automation faculty member with a commitment to excellence in teaching, professional activity, and service. Faculty members in our department are actively engaged in their professional communities, collaborate on curriculum development, and support students in acquiring essential skills and knowledge for academic and career success. Under minimal supervision, the faculty will teach various college-level technical courses to community college students in the following programs:
Automation Technology, Robotics Technology, Electronics Technology, and Electronics Assembly Technology. Additionally, this position will support the college and department in maintaining and developing courses and programs that are in demand by related industries. The faculty must be available to teach as assigned at different campuses and days/times including the potential for evenings and weekends when necessary. The current schedule is Monday thru Thursday, 7am to 1pm or 3pm to 9pm.
Most courses are taught in an open-lab setting without set lecture times.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Instruct courses across the four program areas (Automation, Electronics, Robotics, and Electronics Assembly) which include both theory and practical lab assignments/projects.Actively engage and assist students and provide timely feedback to students on learning and required assessments.Track daily student progress and help resolve educational challenges.Support and educate all students by maintaining regularly scheduled consultation/office hours, advising students on program requirements, and concepts that are difficult.Fully support the college and department activities including: developing and improving curriculum, participating in college service, and engaging in profession communities.Work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.Assist the department in the maintenance of classroom lab equipment and facilities.Maintain currency in theory, practice, and industry related certifications. Striving to learn the latest technology to provide direction and renewal to department offerings.Participate in the Education & Career Pathways Advisory Committee (ECPAC), by attending meetings, supporting PAC growth, and supporting PAC recommendations.Knowledge skills and abilities include:
Daily usage of oral and written English communication skills to support student learning and college business.Commitment to both teaching and developing curriculum.Knowledge of high impact practices and active classroom learning.Use of technology used both in education and industry, including tools used for online course design like Canvas, Amatrol, and NIDA.Grade and track student progress, performing daily grading, attendance notes, and any issues. Record and update all required documentation, such as the master roster.Work effectively with a diverse student population and multi-task, teaching and supporting multiple courses/programs for both theory and hands-on concepts and skillsSupport all programs and courses that the SLTC Electronics offers.Teach process instruments for the measurement and control of pressure, temperature, level, and flow. Process technology, control concepts, PID, troubleshooting and over-all instrumentation/automation industry hardware and software applicationsTeach theory and hands-on applications; usage of industry instrumentation, industrial control, AC/DC motors, servo-motors, troubleshooting, maintenance of instruments & systems, industrial data communications, instrumentation and control documentation, fluid power systems, VFD, electrical power distribution, wiring of 3 phase, and safety/code as per NEC.Teach theory, setup, programming and troubleshooting of Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers and HMI devices for various applications, as used in industry.Teach theory, hands-on/performance-based skills, circuit construction, troubleshooting and proper usage of all required instruments and materials for CORE Electronics, and all departmental program occupational offerings;
Automation Technology, Electronics Technology, Robotics Technology and Electronics Assembly Technology.Support college and department in meeting all required objectives to support and provide quality skills-based training. Proactively assist in maintaining the student learning environment on a daily basis, to include all student learning resources.Seek and fulfill responsibilities required of Full-time Faculty, such as professional development, committees, certifications, and support for the Electronics Technology ECPAC.Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good…
