Position: 2026/27 - Summit Center/Bridges - Special Education Essential Elements Technician - TA184N

Special Education Essential Elements Classroom Technician

Location: Lane 3

Compensation: $19.14 per hour, 5.75 hours per day, 5 days per week, 177 days per year.

Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Job-related experience is not required.
  • Targeted, job‑related education with study in a related area.
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate.
Purpose Statement

The job of Instructional Technician – Essential Elements Classroom is performed to assist in the supervision, care and instruction of students with significant disabilities under a certificated teacher; to observe and document student progress; to support language and motor‑development devices; to implement educational and behavioral plans; to document students' daily activities; to model appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff;

to provide alternate curriculum and modifications; and to assist students with special health‑care needs.

Essential Functions
  • Modify classroom activities, assignments, or materials to provide all special‑education students with the opportunity to participate at appropriate levels and functional limitations.
  • Administer daily‑living care, personal care, and medical/non‑medical assistance (e.g., diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, medication, etc.) to develop children’s daily living activities and behavioral skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers to fulfill students' IEP goals.
  • Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team to assist students in meeting their needs and provide a consistent learning environment.
  • Implement essential elements of academic instruction for individuals or small groups (e.g., cooking, math, reading, spelling, music) in line with IEP goals and district benchmarks.
  • Maintain instructional materials and/or student records (e.g., adapting/modifying materials, checking papers, attendance, audio‑visual equipment, setting up art/science projects, data collection) to ensure availability and provide reliable information.
  • Monitor special‑education students in various settings (e.g., lunch, school bus loading zones, playground, classroom, field trips, assemblies, kitchen) to provide a safe and positive learning environment and cover for teachers as needed.
  • Participate in meetings and in‑service presentations (e.g., personal‑care training, daily‑living skills, emergency procedures, behavioral‑intervention training) to acquire and convey job‑related information.
  • Document personal‑care and/or behavioral service logs for Medicaid reimbursement.
  • Provide teacher assistance in alternate national, state, and district assessments within publisher guidelines.
Other Functions
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Skills: Prepare and maintain accurate records; adhere to safety practices; administer first aid; multitask and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percents, ratios); read manuals, write documents, present information; understand complex written and oral instructions; safety practices, procedures, and stages of child development/behavior.
  • Ability: Schedule activities; collate data; use basic, job‑related equipment; work flexibly with diverse groups, including children with limited verbal skills; display compassion and patience; maintain confidentiality; work as part of a team; maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Responsibilities
  • Work under direct supervision using standardized procedures; lead, guide, and/or coordinate others; operate within a defined budget; utilize resources from other units; have the opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Working Environment

The job requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; significant fine‑finger dexterity; approximately 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing; and exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
