Position: Career Mentor (College of Science)

Job Summary
: A flexible, meaningful student job that helps build a résumé and professional skills. The Career Mentor supports marketing and outreach in the College of Science, presents on career-related topics, assists with events, and helps maintain a science-focused career information database and website. Training is provided.

Responsibilities
  • Assist students, employers, and visitors in person, by phone, and through email
  • Review student appointments, employer accounts, and job postings in Handshake
  • Help maintain a welcoming and professional office environment
  • Meet individually with students to strengthen résumés, cover letters, and interviewing skills
  • Assist students with Handshake and Linked In profiles
Events & Presentations
  • Give presentations to groups on career-related topics
  • Assist with marketing and outreach for events, presentations, and other services
College of Science Projects
  • Conduct internet research and maintain science-related database and website info
  • Identify and post science-related jobs and internships
  • Help communicate with science employers and maintain employer information
  • Complete other projects as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and presentation skills
  • Strong computer skills, comfortable with Microsoft Office including Excel (or equivalent), and able to pick up new technical skills quickly
  • Solid project management skills and good attention to detail
  • Eligibility:
    Enroll as a full‑time student each semester; maintain at least a 2.0 GPA; submit a FAFSA each year to be considered for Federal Work‑Study funding (if applicable)
Preferred Qualifications
  • GPA > 3.0 (higher GPAs strongly preferred)
  • Major in the College of Science preferred; candidates in other majors with strong technical background, communication skills, and interest in science considered
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud products, HTML/CSS, SQL, or basic coding is a plus
