Drainage Engineering Leader
Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced drainage engineering leader specializing in transportation infrastructure projects, including highways, interchanges, and shared-use facilities. The ideal candidate will have expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, stormwater system design, and erosion control planning. Proficiency in Open Roads Designer, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D is essential for delivering accurate, compliant designs. This role requires managing multidisciplinary teams, ensuring quality control, and serving as a trusted technical liaison for clients.
The successful candidate will be passionate about driving innovative solutions for flood control and sustainable water management.
- Lead drainage engineering teams on transportation projects, including freeways, interstates, interchanges, urban and rural highways, and shared-use facilities.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to support the design and construction of transportation infrastructure, public and private site developments, and flood control projects.
- Design drainage systems, including storm sewers, culverts, detention/water quality facilities, bridge deck drainage, river hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, and roadside ditches.
- Coordinate and oversee the work of the assigned design team to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project requirements.
- Perform design and oversee preparation of plans and details using Open Roads Designer, AutoCAD, and/or Civil-3D.
- Produce and perform quality control on erosion control and/or stormwater management plans, reports, quantities, and specifications.
- Serve as lead drainage technical liaison with clients on project efforts.
- Manage local drainage engineering staff.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Water Resources Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of drainage design experience related to transportation infrastructure projects.
- Ability to lead effectively in a collaborative team environment and foster strong, positive relationships with both team members and clients.
- Experience with local county and municipality projects.
- Licensed Utah Professional Engineer.
Skills & Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Civil or Water Resources Engineering.
- Experience working with Utah Department of Transportation.
- Bridge scour revetment design.
- Demonstrated experience with hydrologic and hydraulic computer programs including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and SRH-2D.
The position offers a flexible 9/80 work schedule, allowing every other Friday off. The role requires presence in the office Monday through Friday.
