Director of Payments

What Lumion does

Lumion is the AI-first operating system for trade and technical schools. We run the full student journey from first inquiry to graduation across four areas: engagement, enrollment, payments, and student success. AI agents do real work alongside the human teams in one place, so a school isn’t duct-taping five or six tools together.

The thing that sets us apart is underneath the platform. We run our own payments and servicing engine. It’s NMLS-licensed in 48 states and has held a 91.6% collection rate for three years. Most companies in this category outsource that piece or avoid lending altogether. We built it. For a trade school, the question that matters is whether a student can afford to finish, and that question is the line between enrolling someone and losing them.

We’re seven years in, powering 500-plus schools, backed by TTV Capital and Tusk Venture Partners.

The seat

This is a general manager job. You own payments as a business: the P&L, the volume schools put through the platform, the servicing and collections operation, the reporting everyone else relies on, and the portal students pay through. Schools design their own payment plans. You own the licensed engine that makes those plans collect. You report to the CEO and you carry the number.

Payments is live on 345+ of the 500-plus schools. That gap is the opportunity in front of you: turn payments on across the rest of the base, get more usage out of the schools already running it, and hold the collection rate as the book grows.

What you own
  • The P&L. Revenue, margin, the unit economics underneath them, and the plan to grow the book. Where the number lands is on you.

  • Origination and usage. Much of the job is getting more volume onto the platform. More schools writing plans. Existing schools running more enrollments through payments. Fewer accounts sitting dormant. The 345-to-500 gap is the first target, but there’s depth to win inside the schools already live.

  • Servicing and collections. You run the in‑house, US‑based operation: the team, the workflows, and the borrower experience when an account slips. Holding 91.6% is the floor. The job is moving it up while keeping collections clean and audit‑ready.

  • Reporting. Schools, the exec team, and the board rely on your numbers for origination, collections, and portfolio health. When someone needs to know how payments is doing, the answer comes from you.

  • Payments Product. Inside the product you will own the improvement and maintenance of
    1) the student portal,
    2) any part of the school portal that touches payments and
    3) all product and tools that the servicing team uses to drive collections and servicing.

  • The student portal. The screen students hit when they pay. You’ll work with product and engineering to cut friction and lift conversion. It’s a small surface, but improvements there land directly in what gets collected.

Your team

You inherit seven people: a Director of Compliance, a Servicing Lead, and five servicers. Compliance is already owned and staffed under the Director of Compliance, including 48‑state licenses, exam readiness, and FDCPA. You’re stepping into a clean operation, not building one.

How we work

There are no layers between you and the decisions. You’ll be in the room for them, and the path from spotting a portfolio problem to shipping the fix is short. We run lean by design. You scale this operation with automation and agents, not by adding people every time volume climbs. If your first move when something breaks is to ask for headcount, this will frustrate you.

If running thin and sharp is the part you like, you’ll do well here. The role is in‑office in South Jordan. We service real money for real schools and real students, and the person who owns that engine should sit with the people building it.

Who you are
  • You’ve worked in consumer finance, payments, loan servicing, collections, or fintech operations. You know how origination, portfolio performance, and collection rates behave under load.

  • You’re hands‑on. You’ve built the systems and fixed the broken processes yourself, and you’d rather be close to the work than…
