Fleet Mechanic

Join the City of South Jordan as a Fleet Mechanic!

The City of South Jordan is seeking a skilled and dependable Fleet Mechanic to help keep the vehicles and equipment that support essential City services safe, reliable, and ready for use. This position performs repairs, preventive maintenance, inspections, and recordkeeping for a wide range of municipal vehicles and equipment. This is an onsite, hands-on opportunity to support employees across the City and contribute directly to reliable public service.

What You'll Do:

  • Diagnose, repair, maintain, and overhaul City vehicles and equipment, including gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions, and differentials.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and state vehicle inspections, and test completed work to ensure satisfactory results.
  • Repair industrial and mechanized equipment using welding, fabrication, diagnostic, lifting, and shop equipment.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle maintenance and repair records.
  • Order and pick up parts and supplies needed for equipment and vehicle repairs.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area while following established safety practices and City policies.

Who You Are:

  • You have a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of experience related to the position's duties. Completion of a two-year vocational or apprentice program is preferred.
  • You have a valid Utah Class A Commercial Driver License or can obtain one within six months of employment.
  • You can obtain a Utah State Inspector license and forklift certification within six months of employment.
  • You can participate in compensated on-call rotations and assigned standby periods and meet the position's residency and response-time requirements.
