Overview
The pay rate for this position is $
23 per hour based on experience and geographic location. In addition to hourly pay, a Health and Welfare stipend of $4.98 per hour will be provided for up to 40 hours per week under the U.S. Department of Labor Service Contract Act (SCA). You are also eligible to receive pay for up to 10 holidays and annual vacation time payout, as well as access to an employee discount program.
Travel time and mileage are fully reimbursable.
RTI International is seeking part-time Field Interviewers to work on the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), a government-sponsored research study that has been conducted since 1971. This study provides up-to-date information on alcohol, tobacco, drug use, mental health, and other health-related issues in the United States.
Responsibilities- Travel frequently to selected locations to recruit study participants.
- Make in-person contact with selected respondents to discuss the study, answer questions, and obtain participation.
- Administer a computer-assisted interview, collect confidential information, and administer standardized questionnaires to selected individuals.
- Independently manage administrative duties, including participating in conference calls and completing online trainings.
- Assume full and legal responsibility for use and care of project-issued equipment.
- Safeguard participant incentives, issued equipment, or project materials against damage, loss, or theft.
- Assume responsibility for and carefully track all participant incentives.
- Submit timely and accurate Time & Expense reports.
- Virtually attend scheduled meetings with other members of the project team.
- Approach selected households without prior appointment.
- Work and drive after dark.
- Attend weekly scheduled calls with Field Supervisor.
- Adhere to a schedule set by the Field Supervisor for respondent contact times.
- Provide availability for field observations conducted by a member of client or RTI staff.
- Maintain required system updates to project equipment and complete administrative tasks.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- Possess effective communication skills through speech and listening.
- Fluency in English through reading, writing, and speaking.
- Available for the entire training and data collection period.
- Able to successfully complete training.
- Must have a valid US driver's license and reliable personal automobile available for business use.
- Comfortable using RTI issued tablet, laptop, and other associated equipment.
- Access to password-protected Wi-Fi for data transmissions and administrative responsibilities.
- Able to keep project information confidential.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and after dark.
- Maintain regular access to a computer with a webcam or internet-enabled device with a forward-facing camera and reliable internet connection for training and virtual meetings.
- Position involves physical demands of carrying, lifting, standing, bending, stretching, stooping, typing, and climbing stairs. Physical effort includes supplies and equipment up to 13 pounds.
- Available for a variable work schedule as dictated by the quarterly schedule, size, and location of assignments.
- Available for possible overnight travel throughout the state.
- Positive, self-motivated, curious, and enjoy interacting with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Effective time, schedule, and workload management skills to meet deadlines.
- Computer skills, specifically email and internet proficiency.
- Be comfortable working in unfamiliar areas.
- Available for possible overnight travel if remote segments are included in the assignment area.
- The data collection period is expected to start March 2026
. - On average, part-time work is approximately 25 hours per week when work is available.
- On average, you should be available to work in the field 4 days each week.
- The majority of this work is anticipated to be evenings and weekends
. - Each field trip is expected to be at least 3 hours long, not including travel time.
- Must attend all trainings and successfully complete required courses.
- Attend a 5-day virtual training. Each training day includes: 4 hours of instructor-led live training via Zoom, 2-3 hours of independent online tasks, and 2 hours live Zoom assistance if needed.
- Following training, must complete and successfully pass a certification demonstrating ability to complete an NSDUH field interview.
