The Quichua Telephone Interpreter handles on‑demand calls, providing real‑time interpretation between Quichua and English speakers across various industries such as healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel & hospitality, business, law enforcement, court, and 911. The role requires quick, concise processing of information, cultural sensitivity, and professional, courteous conduct.
Essential Job Functions- Respond promptly to interpreting sessions and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
- Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
- Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
- Maintain a professional demeanor throughout sessions, including remaining calm during stressful or emotional conversations.
- Ensure punctuality and availability during scheduled work hours.
- Follow client instructions and protocol to meet expectations, maintaining confidentiality of the limited‑English‑speaking person (LEP).
- Understand and use industry terminology for medical, insurance, finance, and law contexts.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and willingness to work in a diverse environment.
- Remain on calls that involve sensitive subjects such as end‑of‑life discussions, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, and matters concerning sexual orientation or gender expression.
- Fluency in both Quichua and English with strong cultural competency.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills for high‑accuracy interpretation.
- Ability to concentrate, stay detached from conversation, and remain neutral and objective.
- Experience or education in language‑related fields such as teaching, assessment, translation, or interpretation (preferred).
- Minimum age 18 years and legally authorized to work in the United States without future visa sponsorship.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; higher education or equivalent experience preferred.
- Read and write proficiency in both languages highly preferred.
- Previous employment or affiliation with a Language Line client disqualifies consideration.
- Dedicated personal device (desktop/laptop or tablet/smartphone) with Windows, macOS, Chrome
OS, iPadOS, or Android operating system. - High‑speed internet: download ≥5
Mbps, upload ≥3
Mbps, ping ≤300ms, jitter ≤30ms. - Quiet workspace free from background noise or distraction.
- Operate keyboard and mouse; remain stationary in front of a computer during most of the day.
- Use company software and systems for all job functions.
- Require sufficient manual dexterity for typing or writing.
- Lift up to 26lbs occasionally.
- May be exposed to moderate noise from computer audio or telephone.
