Engineering Intern

The City of South Lake Tahoe is currently seeking a seasonal/limited duration Engineering Intern for the Public Works Department. The internship is an opportunity to work in the City's Engineering Division assisting with overseeing construction and maintenance of the public infrastructure of the City of South Lake Tahoe. Internship work includes reviewing and enforcing Public Works permits, performing construction and permit inspections and documentation, assisting the Engineering Division with daily tasks, and responding to citizen complaints.

* Review and enforce Public Works permit requirements.

* Review construction plans and specifications.

* Enforce contractor compliance with plans and specifications.

* Assist Engineering Division with project design and permitting.

* Perform field inspections of City owned public infrastructure.

* Assist Engineering Division with daily tasks.

* Assist with grant writing.

* Ability to safely drive a City vehicle (valid Driver's License required).

* Performs related duties as required.

Desired

Minimum Qualifications

* Recent graduate or enrolled in a two or four-year degree program in construction management, civil engineering or related field.

* Experience in roadway or utility construction trades.

* Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Work Environment

Work is performed outside in varying weather conditions as well as in a standard office environment. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to perform fieldwork, use hand tools (shovels, rakes, pruning shears, trash grabbers, etc.) and to work in an office setting. Exposed to normal hazards associated with working outside. May be required to wear protective clothing and/or equipment.
