The Nurse Supervisor collaborates and promotes patient health by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning for patients and staff in Home Health Hospice and Advanced Care. This position develops staff, ensures appropriate documentation, and promotes effective communication with team members. The Nurse Supervisor will also collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff, provide physical and psychological support for patients, families, and their support system.

This position will provide oversight for the department in the absence of unit management, address patient care, staffing, and any other incidents that may arise, supervise staff and manage subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs, handle administrative responsibilities and ensure adequate staffing for the oncoming shift. The Nurse Supervisor will also determine issues to be referred to the Director of HHH and Advanced Care, Hospice Medical Director and/or Administrator On Call.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Completion of an accredited Nursing program.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum two years recent experience in designated department or similar setting preferred.
  • Minimum two years recent supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of nursing practices in designated department.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communications skills.
  • Proficient computer skills as are required to document, communicate and enter information into the electronic medical records system.
  • Strong people skills including the ability to recruit and train volunteers.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to collaborate with various departments in and outside of the Barton Health System in order to provide consistently exceptional patient care.
  • Attention to detail, meticulous development and maintenance of regulatory paperwork

Certifications/Licensure:

  • Current California RN and Nevada RN license or ability to obtain prior to start date.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or ability to obtain prior to start date.
  • Valid California or Nevada Driver’s license (depending on state of employee’s residence) or ability to obtain prior to start date
  • Certified Hospice Palliative Nurse (CHPN) certification or ability to obtain within two years.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfer patients.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds.
