Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Product Engineer.

Salary: $86,000 – $126,000 per year (general guideline; actual salary depends on skills, experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations).

What you’ll do

Join our high-impact team as a forward-thinking Product Engineer. In this role, you’ll provide advanced sustaining engineering support for medium voltage reclosers, fault interrupters, and switches. You’ll lead initiatives focused on product cost optimization, performance enhancement, and process improvement—applying deep technical knowledge to drive innovation, resolve complex challenges, and influence product strategy across cross‑functional teams.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Innovate and Improve:
    Develop, maintain, and enhance product design and definition data, including bills of materials, drawings, and specifications.
  • Lead and Manage:
    Oversee the introduction of new products and modifications to existing ones, supporting production and manufacturing engineering to resolve issues.
  • Collaborate Globally:
    Work with global suppliers and Supplier Quality Engineers to conduct assessments, capability analysis, and part approvals.
  • Ensure Quality:
    Partner with Service, Quality Engineers, Application Engineers, and customers to analyze, document, and resolve product reliability issues, and write detailed product analysis reports.
  • Drive Efficiency:
    Utilize Design for Six Sigma and Lean techniques to drive product and process improvements.
  • Optimize Design:
    Perform Design for Cost / Design for Manufacture Analysis (DFM/DFA) on parts and subassemblies, proposing alternate materials and methods.
  • Leverage Technology:
    Conduct engineering analysis and digital simulation using advanced tools (CAD, FEA, statistical analysis, software applications, etc.).
  • Test and Validate:
    Coordinate functional and reliability test plans using both internal and external lab resources.
  • Adhere to Standards:
    Apply relevant industry standards to product design, including design verification and validation.
  • Strive for Excellence:
    Set ambitious goals, measure performance, and constantly seek ways to improve processes, products, and services.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three years of design engineering experience.
  • No immigration sponsorship, relocation assistance, or support for foreign visa status; only candidates within a 50-mile radius of South Milwaukee, WI will be considered (Active‑Duty Military Service members are exempt from the geographical limitation).
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ year of design experience with electromechanical systems.
  • High voltage design experience and power system analysis experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or product test environment.
  • Hands‑on experience building prototypes or other equipment.
  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
Skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent computer and data analysis skills; proficiency using Microsoft Office.
  • Problem‑solving experience using Root Cause Analysis techniques.
  • Product design, DFM/DFA, and manufacturing knowledge.
