Accounting Manager

Our client, a growing food ingredient company is seeking a hands‑on Accounting Manager to join their team in Naperville, IL in a hybrid work environment. This is a high visibility role and will report directly to the President.

• Own the full monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
• Prepare accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Perform journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis
• Deliver timely and clear financial reporting to the President and leadership team
• Manage the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and bank reconciliations
• Oversee revenue recognition, cost of goods sold, and inventory accounting
• Maintain the chart of accounts and accounting policies
• Ensure proper documentation and audit‑ready records
• Own inventory accounting and reconciliation between Quick Books and Fishbowl
• Monitor inventory valuation, adjustments, and cost accuracy
• Partner with operations to resolve inventory discrepancies and process issues
• Support margin analysis and cost visibility for ingredients and finished goods
• Serve as system owner for Quick Books and Fishbowl
• Maintain data integrity between systems
• Identify and implement process improvements, automation, and controls as the business scales
• Support integration with sales, operations, and inventory workflows
• Coordinate annual financial reviews and audits, as applicable
• Support tax filings and work with external CPAs and advisors
• Act as the primary financial point of contact for the President
• Provide clear financial insights to support pricing, margin, inventory, and cash flow decisions
• Bring a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset to the role

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of GAAP
• Experience operating as a standalone or very lean accounting function
• Hands‑on experience with Quick Books
• Experience with Fishbowl or similar inventory management systems
• Experience with inventory, cost accounting, and COGS

• CPA or CMA
• Experience in food, ingredient, manufacturing, or distribution environments
• Experience supporting a growing or scaling company
