Traveling Superintendent POSITION SUMMARY

Apex Design Build is a commercial design build firm, specializing in private healthcare practices. Following design build methodology, we manage projects from early visioning and conceptual design stages, all the way through the architectural and construction phases. We are in the process of establishing local market leadership and then scaling regionally.

We are currently seeking a dynamic Traveling Superintendent to support our rapidly growing organization. The Superintendent is the Quality Control Manager on the job site and is responsible for the daily activities of all field staff for a construction project. The Superintendent oversees the day-today field operations by establishing and implementing safety policies and procedures, coordinating field activities and adhering to the project schedule.

The Superintendent provides supervision for coordination of all subcontractors and is responsible for quality workmanship and project completion within budget.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Enforce and manage all safety and quality standards.
  • Supervise the daily jobsite activities, work very closely with Project Managers and Director of Operations to ensure success and that the work is performed in a safe and organized manner, is in compliance with the drawings and specifications, and is executed by the most efficient means.
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of subcontractors and material vendors via planning and scheduling.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, produce 3-week look-ahead schedules, and report problems or deficiencies to the Director of Operations.
  • Document all on-site activities with daily reports and photos.
  • Maintain relationships by collaborating and communicating effectively with internal Apex team (design and architecture), owners, subcontractors, and local municipalities.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and secure work site and enforce required activities.
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience.
    • Ability to communicate effectively; both orally and in writing and via computer.
    • Knowledge of architectural design and planning principles and procedures.
    • Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments.
    • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
    • Ability to read schematics and blueprints and/or technical manuals.
    • Technical knowledge of building components and their function.
    • Strong interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
    • Skills in workflow analysis and management.
    • Knowledge of building components, life cycle values and maintenance requirements.
    • Knowledge of contract documents and specifications.
    • Ability to provide technical guidance and/or supervision to subcontractors.
    • Knowledge of federal, state and local building codes, ordinances and regulations.
    • Knowledge of procurement rules and regulations.
    • Ability to perform site inspections and/or approve installations.
  • Must be flexible for overnight or weekend work as needed.
  • OSHA certifications are preferred but not required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
  • Moderate physical activity. May require physical effort including lifting up to 50 pounds and some extended periods of standing or walking.
  • Moderate exposure to physical risk.
  • Travel required.
