Job DescriptionProviso Township High Schools District 209 is seeking Special Education Teachers Instructional Extended School Year (ESY) during Summer of 2026. Teachers will engage students in meaningful, rigorous, standards-aligned learning opportunities to earn graduation credit for their course(s). Teachers will prepare lesson plans, design and grade formative and summative assessments, and provide in-person student-centered instruction while maintaining attendance records and grades on the district-approved Student Information System (SIS).
Summer School teachers must have the required endorsements for the courses in which they teach. They must attend professional development prior to the first summer session and commit to both sessions. Courses will be taught in person.
Summer School DatesSession 1:
Monday, June 8 through Thursday, June 25, 2026
Session 2:
Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 16, 2026
Classes meet Monday through Thursday. No class on Fridays.
Session goes from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Teachers report from 8:45 am to 2:15 pm.
Instructional Responsibilities- Teach to prescribed outcomes and goals.
- Use instructional methods that improve student achievement.
- Assign and evaluate appropriate student work.
- Involve students in learning.
- Make effective use of entire class period.
- Use appropriate school support and resource materials.
- Convey to students learning goals and the importance of material learned.
- Be clear in explanations and directions.
- Provide continuity in learning activities.
- Challenge students by using appropriate questioning strategies.
- Speak clearly, audibly, and fluently.
- Adjust the teaching pace to assure maximum student understanding.
- Provide appropriate remedial and/or enrichment material whenever necessary.
- Communicate high expectations for student performance.
- Establish a positive and safe learning environment.
- Revise lesson plans as needed.
- Plan instructional examples, illustrations, and time for questions into lessons.
- Address different styles of learning by employing a variety of instructional techniques and materials.
- Be creative and innovative in the use of curricular and instructional materials.
- Demonstrate command of subject areas crucial to instructional effectiveness.
- Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary instructional research related to the subject area and to the teaching of diverse students.
- Remain current in the assigned content area and in the profession.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm about subject matter.
- Develop, communicate, and enforce a set of classroom rules, policies, procedures, and expectations which are consistent with school and department policies and with learning outcomes.
- Monitor student behavior for compliance with classroom rules.
- Reinforce/reward appropriate social and academic behavior.
- Respond to behavior problems quickly and appropriately.
- Have necessary material and equipment available and ensure their appropriate use and care.
- Provide and distribute necessary classroom materials in an orderly and efficient manner.
- Interact with students in ways which are respectful and friendly, and which reflect an understanding of cultural differences.
- Provide students feedback on their knowledge and skill.
- Use effective methods to manage student behavior.
- Perform promptly the responsibilities stipulated in Board of Education policies and administrative procedures.
- Attend each day of the program. Absences, for any reason, will result in a reduced stipend payment.
- Model and enforce classroom and school rules, policies, and procedures.
- Be punctual in arrival times to the building and to class.
- Cooperate with other educational personnel.
- Report promptly student behavior, attendance, and performance to family or guardians and when necessary, refer students to appropriate school personnel; stay in regular communications with parents.
