Make a meaningful difference by providing specialized support to deaf and hard of hearing students as a Hearing Itinerant serving schools near the Waukegan, IL area. This part-time contract position (approximately 0.4 FTE) focuses on ensuring equal access to educational opportunities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. You will play a key role in their academic growth and communication success, collaborating with educators to support diverse learning needs.

Qualifications & Desired

Skills:

• Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing or relevant Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist credentials
• Demonstrated experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in an educational setting
• Strong knowledge of hearing assistive technology (e.g., FM systems, hearing aids, cochlear implants)
• Familiarity with IEP development and implementation
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams
• Flexibility to travel between multiple school sites as needed
• Understanding of deaf culture and effective accommodations for hearing loss in classroom environments

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct and consultative services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, tailoring strategies to individual learning needs
• Support teachers and staff in implementing accommodations and inclusive practices
• Assess students' progress and adapt instruction or recommendations accordingly
• Monitor and troubleshoot hearing assistive devices in classroom settings
• Advocate for student accessibility and help foster a positive, communicative classroom environment
• Participate in IEP meetings, contributing expertise on best practices for supporting hearing-impaired learners

Compensation for this position ranges from $30.50 to $50.50. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals.
