Job Description
Step into a rewarding role supporting 6th grade students as a Special Education Teacher in a dynamic school environment near Elgin, IL. This contract position is designed for those passionate about fostering growth and inclusivity among young learners with diverse needs.
In this position, you will have the opportunity to teach a dedicated special education English Language Arts (ELA) class consisting of 12 students, allowing for meaningful, tailored instruction. Additionally, you’ll collaborate as a co-teacher in two general education classrooms—one ELA class and one science class—providing specialized support and modifying instruction to meet student needs. An additional period will be dedicated to a WIN class, serving as a structured study hall for special education students to reinforce skills, receive individualized support, and develop academic independence.
Qualifications &
Experience:
- Valid special education teaching license or certification
- Experience with 6th grade or middle school preferred
- Strong understanding of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and implementation
- Ability to effectively collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging classroom environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored ELA instruction to a small group of special education students
- Partner with general education teachers to co-teach and differentiate instruction in ELA and science
- Facilitate a structured study hall (WIN class) to support academic skill-building and student growth
- Monitor and report on student progress, adapting plans as needed
- Communicate with families and support teams to ensure holistic student development
- Maintain a positive, proactive approach to behavior management and classroom routines
