Job Description
Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a Special Education Teacher near Chicago, IL, for the upcoming academic year. This 10-month assignment begins on August 17, 2026, and concludes on June 4, 2027, offering a structured schedule and the chance to make a meaningful impact on students in a supportive school environment.
This position serves a caseload of 14 middle school learners in 6th and 7th grades. Your core responsibilities will include leading instructional math and English Language Arts for 6th graders, as well as team-teaching science and social studies for 7th graders. The regular weekly commitment is 32.75 hours, with a daily schedule from 8:00am to 3:15pm, Monday through Friday, and a 42-minute unpaid lunch.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or closely related field
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement
- Previous experience as a Special Education Teacher in a middle school setting strongly preferred
- Deep understanding of IEP process and ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learning needs
- Strong classroom management and collaborative teaching skills
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver instruction in math and ELA tailored to individual education plans for 6th-grade students
- Co-teach science and social studies for a 7th-grade inclusion classroom
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families
- Monitor student progress, provide regular updates, and participate in IEP meetings
- Create an inclusive, positive learning environment where all students can succeed
