Salary: $30.3975 per hour at Step 1 (2025). 2026 wage to be implemented with a new collective bargaining agreement.
Job DescriptionThe City of Naperville Water Utility seeks a Senior Water Utility Technician for the Springbrook Wastewater Operations division to perform skilled and semi‑skilled work in the operation, inspection, and repair of the City’s wastewater operations facility. The position is represented by IBEW Local 196.
Responsibilities- Observe and adjust performance of biological and physical treatment units; perform related limited maintenance.
- Calculate required pumping and chemical feed rates.
- Collect and analyze wastewater and biosolids samples for process control.
- Gather and record operations data for treatment units and process parameters.
- Operate equipment to dewater biosolids.
- Operate various vehicular equipment: tractors, rubber‑tire loaders, backhoe/loaders, trucks.
- Monitor work zones for unsafe conditions, take corrective action, report to supervisors, and adhere to safety policies.
- Perform janitorial duties for the Administration Building and other structures.
- Maintain plant site and grounds: snow removal, mowing, installing and maintaining landscaping.
- Provide input to Supervisors regarding operation and condition of treatment processes; suggest changes.
- May direct temporary employees’ work activities as assigned.
- Operate and adjust controls for City’s water supply facilities.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Minimum three years of responsible experience operating and maintaining advanced wastewater or water supply facilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Illinois EPA Class 3 Wastewater Operator certification.
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License; must obtain Class C license within three months of hire.
- Training in wastewater/water treatment, mechanical maintenance, or related field.
