Structural Project Designer positions are available in Chicago or Naperville, IL. As a Structural Project Designer, you will lead design efforts for low- to moderate‑complexity projects, and collaborate with senior staff on larger high‑complexity projects, ensuring positive outcomes for clients.
- Lead analysis and design of structural systems using building materials; utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations per code requirements and IMEG standards.
- Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively; build and maintain client relationships.
- Support execution of consulting projects; lead project planning, budgeting, scheduling, document design decisions, and monitor progress.
- Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions; collaborate with senior engineers and consultants.
- Provide in‑process design reviews of structural system design, calculations, and specifications; implement IMEG quality control processes.
- Stay up‑to‑date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices; contribute to research, development, and innovation.
- Prioritize safety in all engineering work.
- Conduct oneself ethically and professionally.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager.
- Oversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases.
- Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts for producing technical plans and specifications.
- Strong technical and analytical skills; familiarity with mechanics, materials, load paths, design techniques, and standards for steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and structural systems.
- Ability to train and mentor less‑experienced staff.
- Proficiency with structural engineering design and analysis software and BIM software.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
- Eagerness to adapt to new challenges.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent (required). Master’s in Structural Engineering preferred. EIT certification preferred. 3+ years experience in building design consulting (4 preferred).
- OR Associates degree or certificate in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering (preferred). 7+ years experience in building design consulting or construction industry (8 preferred).
Salary range: $90,000 – $100,000. Distribution may vary by location and experience. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
