Scope
The Construction Administrator will be responsible for performing site observations during construction and to provide information as requested to contractors. This position will be expected to keep the engineer informed of project status and aware of potential problems or liability issues. In addition, the Construction Administrator will observe work through meetings and site visits to determine if progress and quality of workmanship are in accordance with the contract documents.
This position will be a supporting role to our engineering teams that focus on various types of vertical building design.
- Review project, scope of work, and budget for contracted services
- Meet with the Operations Manager, Project Managers and design engineers to review expectations and role to be fulfilled by Construction Administrator on assigned projects
- Prepare a work schedule and time projections; coordinate the schedule and work with Construction Supervisor and design engineers
- Review contract documents with contractors, clarify and interpret contract documents, and obtain information from design engineers as required; issue reports regarding deficiencies in the project
- Collect data and review change orders with the design engineer and prepare project close‑out documents when needed
- Confer with the architect concerning construction coordination issues between architectural and engineering design; coordinate with the design engineer, record and document events and circumstances
- Review applications for payment submitted by the contractor and forward to the Project Manager with a recommendation for disposition
- Assist the client with final observation of the work and receive necessary documentation from the contractor at completion
- Attend construction progress meetings as required in the service contract and report proceedings
Skills and Abilities
- Familiarity with design processes and interpretation of architectural and engineering design documents
- Knowledge of design and construction techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans and drawings
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings and structures
- Field experience or skilled trades an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written form to individuals or groups
- Other duties as assigned
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction, design observation, the trades and/or administration
- Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull
- Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises
- Ability to climb ladders and safely maneuver around construction sites
