Supervises and ensures the day‑to‑day operations, maintenance, and improvements to the physical infrastructure of the data center. Additionally, provides training, expertise, and experience to the Data Center Technicians and the Facilities Technicians. Regular, predictable attendance is essential for satisfactory performance.
Responsibilities- Supervise the Data Center Technicians and the Facilities Technicians.
- Operate and maintain the data center to assure optimal uptime, targeting Five 9’s for electrical, cooling, and other facilities services.
- Task the CFOps team in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements for fire, health and life safety.
- Provide daily operation and maintenance scheduling for non‑critical and critical tasks.
- Ensure the CFOps team achieves goals by reviewing budget, staff planning, NPS, efficiency, and other metrics.
- Analyze data center equipment to maximize effectiveness, efficiency, safety, cost, equipment longevity, and reliability.
- Conduct in‑depth training with the Data Center Technicians on equipment, preventive maintenance, quality assurance, and CFOps procedures.
- Manage and maintain all training documentation and provide necessary documentation to Human Resources.
- Ensure the data center operates at maximum efficiency by analyzing conditions, recommending new technologies, maintaining customer SLAs, and improving overall efficiency within budget.
- Work with customers to deliver successful installs that exceed expectations.
- Supervise the safety and well‑being of all CFOps team members.
- Manage shift assignments, review and approve timekeeping, and approve PTO for assigned technicians.
- Write and review non‑critical and critical Method of Procedures (MOPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Standard Method of Procedures (SMPs) and provide input.
- Supervise execution of non‑critical and critical MOPs and ensure thorough completion.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong background in electrical and mechanical systems design review, layout, installation, commissioning, and operations.
- Expert knowledge of low‑voltage systems, including fire, security and PLCs.
- Expert knowledge of NFPA electrical, fire and life safety and building codes.
- Expert knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25 and related compliance issues.
- Expert knowledge in industrial safety best practices (lock‑out/tag‑out, arc‑flash protection, OSHA and state regulations).
- Experience with data trending, tracking and analysis; rapid adoption of PC‑based, integrated critical monitoring systems.
- Strong supervisory skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Extensive hands‑on experience installing, maintaining and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial mechanical and electrical systems, including 12kV switch gear, 480/277 and 208/120V generation and distribution, diesel‑powered AC generators up to 2MW, static UPS, flooded‑cell batteries, PLC and relay logic controls, power monitoring, data‑center power distribution, VFD drives, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water treatment, HVAC, CRACs, Kyoto cooling units, building management and PLC control systems, emergency standby generators, fuel/oil systems, spray‑reducing piping, emergency fire pumps, chilled boiler pumps, well or sump pumps, domestic water systems with back‑flow prevention devices.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Ability to train teams on systems and procedures.
- Ability to conduct power and fire system capacity, safety and code compliance assessments.
- Ability to operate in a rigorous process‑driven, team‑oriented environment.
