We are seeking a Lighting Project Designer to focus on growth, proactive design, and project ownership. The role involves leading smaller projects and introducing project management and proposal writing.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Determine appropriate design standards and illuminance and uniformity targets based on IES recommendations.
  • Select appropriate luminaire options and specify these in a luminaire schedule.
  • Create visual presentations using PowerPoint, Bluebeam, InDesign, Photoshop, AGI
    32, or other methods to illustrate design concepts for client meetings; create luminaire layouts and perform illuminance calculations using AGI
    32 software.
  • Design lighting layouts including basic control sensors and draft lighting control sequences of operations and zone schedules in Revit or occasionally in AutoCAD.
  • Coordinate with electrical engineering teams on circuiting, emergency lighting, energy code documentation (Com Check), and other engineering teams, interior designers and architects as needed throughout the project.
  • Coordinate with luminaire and controls representatives for product information and pricing.
  • Be an active member and contribute to the local section of the Illuminating Engineering Society.
  • Attend project job site visits to review existing conditions or luminaire/controls installations and assist in creating luminaire mockups either in office or at a project site.
  • Develop consistent quality across projects; provide feedback and support the development of IMEG standards; begin to develop client relationships on projects.
  • Begin to manage projects of smaller to middle size and complexity.
  • Collaborate with senior lighting design team members, project executives, or client executives to learn and write proposals.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in producing technical plans and specifications.
  • Strong 2D and 3D visualization and design skills.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of lighting design, both visual and technical aspects.
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Proficiency with industry‑standard engineering software, including AGI
    32.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form to individuals or groups.
  • Team collaboration skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges.
  • Proficiency in BIM software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Architectural Engineering, Theatrical Lighting Design, Interior Design, or equivalent (required). 5 years of industry experience, preferred 6.
  • Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) certification preferred.
  • Associate’s degree or certificate in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering (preferred). 9 years of industry experience, preferred 10.
Physical Requirements
  • Required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasional driving, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, grasping, or pulling.
  • Limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $60,000 - $110,000. Location and experience influence compensation. Additional rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
