IMEG is hiring a Technology Project Designer – Mission Critical & Healthcare to support technology and low‑voltage design projects across our Midwest offices. This role may be based in Naperville, IL;
Columbus, OH;
Independence, OH;
Indianapolis, IN;
Madison, WI; or Rock Island, IL, with preference for candidates in the greater Chicago, Cleveland, and Quad Cities areas.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Lead design efforts for IT structured cabling, audio/video, security, and other low‑voltage building systems.
  • Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Partner with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain professional relationships.
  • Support consulting project execution while leading planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project progress, percent complete, and fee expended.
  • Analyze engineering problems and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical, efficient solutions.
  • Perform in‑process design reviews and apply IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet IMEG, industry, and client standards.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in low‑voltage technology (ICT) engineering, and contribute to research and innovation efforts.
  • Prioritize safety by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with low‑voltage technology ICT systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions and support projects through bidding and construction administration.
Required Qualifications And Skills
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer or related Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, related STEM field, or equivalent required.
  • Engineering In Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
  • Three years of experience minimum required, four preferred, in the building design consulting industry.
  • Associate’s degree or certificate in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred.
  • Seven years of experience minimum required, eight preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry.
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, including proficiency in electrical voltage and current principles, digital and analog signal concepts, and basic IT networking topologies and protocols related to low‑voltage systems design for buildings.
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Proficiency with industry standard engineering software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges.
  • Proficiency in the use of BIM software.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both oral and written formats.
  • Travel up to 30% with occasional overnight stays.

Salary Range (by Jurisdiction)

Salary Range: $86,000 - $120,000. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
