Base Compensation: $160,000-$180,000
A growth-oriented financial services organization is conducting a confidential search for a Corporate Controller to strengthen its Controllership function. This role will serve as the technical accounting leader and own the integrity of the company’s financial reporting cycle. The position is designed for a seasoned accounting professional who can run the close, lead external reporting, and apply technical GAAP judgment across complex transactions—including revenue recognition and M&A activity.
This is not a transactional accounting role. It requires executive presence, technical depth, and ownership of the reporting function.
Reporting into senior finance leadership, this role will:
- Lead the monthly and quarterly close process
- Own the preparation and review of GAAP financial statements
- Drive the external reporting cycle, including footnotes and disclosures
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on technical accounting matters
- Oversee revenue recognition under ASC 606
- Partner with leadership on complex accounting analysis and strategic transactions
- Manage audit coordination and strengthen internal control frameworks
This hire will play a foundational role in shaping the Controllership structure and elevating reporting quality.
Core Responsibilities- Direct end-to-end month-end and quarter-end close cycles
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements
- Lead preparation of financial statement footnotes, disclosures, and variance analysis
- Act as the company’s primary technical accounting resource, particularly regarding ASC 606
- Research and interpret new accounting standards and complex transactions
- Support opening and closing balance sheet mechanics for M&A transactions
- Partner directly with external auditors to drive efficient, clean audits
- Maintain and enhance internal control structures consistent with SOX expectations
- Provide clear, concise communication of accounting conclusions to executive leadership
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7‑10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful exposure to leadership responsibilities
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with demonstrated experience applying ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition)
- Experience owning or materially contributing to financial statement preparation and footnote drafting
- Direct involvement in managing external audits
- Experience operating within structured close and reporting cycles
- CPA license
- Big 4 audit background (financial services exposure is highly relevant)
- Industry experience running close and external reporting
- Technical credibility and sound accounting judgment
- Clear, concise communication style with the ability to synthesize complex issues
- Strong executive presence and cross-functional partnership skills
- A proactive, self-directed work style
- Ability to balance technical depth with business pragmatism
- Candidates whose experience is limited to general ledger processing
- Professionals without hands‑on GAAP reporting experience
