Objective Of PositionThe Sr. Credit Analyst is responsible for providing analytical and underwriting support for commercial banking, including independent analysis of creditworthiness of customers and prospects. The analyst works closely with the lending function to assess the risk of commercial transactions and produces thorough documentation for approval consideration.
Duties And Responsibilities- Performs commercial credit analysis by reviewing items including credit reports, personal/business financial statements, tax returns, appraisals, property inspections, and environmental reports to complete loan presentations for approval consideration.
- Prepares and analyzes spreads of a company’s financial statements to determine overall credit strengths and weaknesses of potential commercial credit customers, including debt‑service ratio, current assets ratio, leverage ratios, cash flow analysis, fixed charge coverage, and acid test ratio.
- Performs and completes a collateral analysis of all collateral assets, including accounts receivables, inventory, equipment, and real estate.
- Conducts credit classification analysis, detailing the company’s customer base, the detail credit profile of the company’s largest customers, delinquent accounts, aging analysis, delinquencies, collections, and charge‑offs.
- Conducts inventory analysis, including inventory days, stale inventory, spoilage, depletion, and inventory valuations.
- Conducts equipment analysis, comparing market value to book value and assessing net orderly liquidation values.
- Conducts real‑estate collateral analysis, including examination of appraisal, special and single‑purpose use facilities, and alternative uses.
- Contacts the customer or representative to obtain additional information or explanation throughout the underwriting process while coordinating with the banker.
- Identifies and assesses various business, industry, and market risks to determine and categorize business trends, growth, cyclical nature, seasonality, and business cycle stages, applying findings to credit evaluation.
- Conducts business sector analyses to evaluate the health and viability of a company based on similar businesses and/or competitors.
- Evaluates the overall growth potential of company bases through the application of various economic theories.
- Serves as a coach and mentor to Credit Analyst trainees.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years in a commercial credit analysis function within a financial institution.
- Formal credit training preferred.
- Recognized as a strategic thinker and creative problem solver.
- Demonstrated high‑level problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders at all levels.
- Self‑motivated and effective time and project manager with strong attention to detail.
- Strong change management, organizational, and planning capabilities.
- Ability to identify, understand, and define problems, evaluate alternatives, set priorities, manage projects, and implement high‑quality solutions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to directly manage and communicate multiple projects and priorities.
- Possess strong communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Usual office environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing. Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office equipment. Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication. The role supports a hybrid work environment, with a combination of remote and in‑office work as business needs dictate.
